Deadline: June 5, 2024

Applications are open for the Refugee Fellows Program 2024. The Refugee Fellows Program enriches and supports the advocacy efforts of refugee leaders around the world. This year-long Fellowship equips fellows with the necessary tools and resources to amplify the perspectives of refugees and displaced individuals and drive meaningful change in their communities.

Fellows are formally affiliated with Refugees International and collaborate closely with Refugees International’s staff on various advocacy initiatives, including reports, opinion pieces, events, research trips, and direct engagement with policy makers. Additionally, fellows participate in peer-to-peer learning and formal and informal training sessions with advocacy and communications professionals.

Components of the Fellowship

  • Technical Training: Enhancing skills such as public speaking, advocacy planning, and fundraising, or other themes tailored to meet the needs of the fellows.
  • Professional Networking: Connecting fellows with a wide network of influential figures in the humanitarian field, fostering professional relationships and collaborative opportunities.
  • Funding Opportunities: Supporting fellows in effective fundraising training and networking.
  • Collaborative Advocacy Events and Trips: Offering opportunities for partnership with Refugees International on key advocacy issues through collaborative events and research trips.

Benefits

  • Fellows will receive a $15,000 grant in four quarterly installments throughout the year, for working up to five hours a week.

Eligibility

  • Open to individuals with personal experience of forced displacement and a demonstrated commitment to advocacy for the rights and safety of displaced people.
  • They encourage emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds to apply.
  • English language competency is preferred for the ultimate success of the Fellowship program so that fellows may engage with all aspects of Refugees International work and staff. Competency in other key advocacy and local languages also preferred.
  • This is a remote program, so candidates must have their own computer and internet access to participate.

Application

To apply, applicants must complete an application form, submit a personal statement, and provide a concise work plan for the Fellowship year.

Candidates will be invited to a panel interview during the second half of June. Decisions about fellowships will be made by the beginning of July, and fellowships will begin on July 22, 2024, for a one-year term.
